Zeena Abdi, Associate
Zeena Abdi is an associate attorney at Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC, concentrating her practice in the area of criminal defense, with additional work in the fields of dietary supplement regulation and steroid law. A seasoned attorney with more than a decade of experience in criminal practice, Zeena has litigated some of Long Island’s most high profile criminal cases, and brings years of valuable courtroom experience to Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC and CGMB clients.
Prior to joining Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC, Zeena was Deputy Bureau Chief, Grand Jury Bureau at the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office in Mineola, NY, where she trained and supervised attorneys on grand jury presentments, case preparation and investigation. Prior to the role of Deputy Bureau Chief, she served as an Assistant District Attorney in the District Attorney’s Office, most recently in the Major Offense Bureau. As an Assistant DA in the Major Offense Bureau, she prosecuted major violent crimes and homicides throughout Nassau County. In addition, she served as Assistant District Attorney in the County Court Trial Bureau, where she prosecuted felonies in Nassau County, and Assistant District Attorney in the District Court Trial Bureau, where she was responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor cases, penal law non-criminal offenses and designated non-penal law offenses in Nassau County.
As a criminal defense attorney at Collins Gann McCloskey & Barry PLLC, Zeena brings tremendous legal skills and insight into the criminal justice system to clients. Her years of experience in the DA’s office and her extensive knowledge of the court system, combined with her work in prosecuting some of the area’s most well-known high profile criminal cases, have established her as one of the region’s most highly regarded attorneys. Zeena will be involved in representing many of the firm’s clients in both the areas of criminal defense and dietary supplement/steroid law, and will be handling cases involving a wide range of criminal law issues.
In addition to her leadership role in the District Attorney’s office, Zeena held a number of key legal internships and held roles at prominent organizations in both Washington, D.C. and New York. She served as a Legal Intern at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., in the Office of General Counsel, Technology Law Unit. In addition, prior to entering law school, she worked as a paralegal at the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York, Civil Division, where she assisted Assistant United States Attorneys in all aspect of litigation preparation.
Zeena received her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and a Master’s degree in developmental psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College in New York. She received her law degree from George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., and was admitted to the New York State Bar in January, 2003.
