Rick Collins, Marc Gann and David Torreblanca Attend the 140th NY State Bar Association Annual Meeting in New York City
CGMB lawyers Rick Collins, Marc Gann and David Torreblanca attended the 140th Annual Meeting of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) last week, joining with more than 5,000 members from around the state and beyond. Held at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City, Rick, Marc and David participated in key section and committee meetings, ceremonies and receptions, as well as met with other New York attorneys throughout the region.
Both Rick and Marc are members of the Executive Committee of NYSBA’s Criminal Justice Section, and on last Thursday afternoon attended the Criminal Justice Section meeting, luncheon and awards presentation. Rick presented an update on the “second chances” initiative to create an appropriate criminal record sealing law in New York State. Rick and Marc both attended the Criminal Justice Section Executive Committee Dinner on Wednesday night. In addition to the Section and Committee meetings, both CGMB partners also participated in CLE programs in conjunction with the annual meeting. Rick also attended the annual New York Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers dinner on Thursday night.
As Co-Chairs of the NYSBA Criminal Justice Section Sealing Committee, Rick and attorney Jay Shapiro presented an update on criminal record sealing to the Legislative Committee of the District Attorneys Association of the State of New York at their Winter Conference at the midtown Grand Hyatt. The DA’s Association, like the State Bar, supports the recent criminal record sealing proposals and recognizes the need to give deserving ex-offenders a second chance at employment, housing and education. Rick looks forward to working with NYSBA and the DA’s Association to move this much-needed initiative forward in 2017.
David Torreblanca is a member of NYSBA’s Young Lawyers Section and Food, Drug and Cosmetic Law Section. On Wednesday, he met with other young lawyers, attended the Young Lawyers Section meeting, and joined the group for lunch. David attended a full-day meeting of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Law Section on Thursday, gaining critical insights into current legal issues facing dietary supplement, cosmetics, and natural products marketers. With presentations by current and former FDA and FTC officials, these meetings help David keep CGMB clients apprised of updates affecting their businesses.
