Second Chance For Ex-Offenders Act Gains Support From AFL-CIO
Momentum and Outside Support Continues for Criminal Record Sealing in New York State
The Second Chance for Ex-Offenders Act – proposed legislation to give certain ex-offenders a second chance through the sealing of their criminal records – has just received an important vote of support from the New York State AFL-CIO.
This is great news for the criminal record sealing initiative, for which CMG’s Rick Collins has been working hard as the co-chair of the Criminal Justice Section of the New York State Bar Association’s Sealing Committee. Rick helped spearhead a report and recommendations which were adopted by the House of Delegates of the Association and remain a legislative priority. While the proposed Second Chance for Ex-Offenders Act doesn’t go as far as the Bar Association’s position, it is an important move in the right direction for giving ex-offenders that important second chance.
