Bob McDonald Elected to the New York State Supreme Court
Bob McDonald, Longtime Criminal Defense Attorney and Co-founder of Collins, McDonald & Gann, Becomes a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court
Last night, CMG partner and co-founder Bob McDonald was elected to the New York State Supreme Court, the highest trial court in New York State. Bob was elected to serve in the prestigious positon of Justice of the New York State Supreme Court – winning one of seven open seats and receiving the third highest number of votes (tying at 12% of votes with the top two candidates.)
Bob has been an instrumental part of New York’s legal community for more than 30 years, and has built a strong reputation as one of New York’s most highly regarded criminal defense attorneys. As one of our founding partners, Bob has played a vital role in helping to grow Collins, McDonald & Gann into one of Long Island’s most trusted and respected law firms. With his exciting win last night, Bob is now preparing to become part of the New York State Supreme Court on January 1st — and we wish him all the best, and thank him for all he has done, as he embarks on this distinguished new chapter of his law career.
Although we are excited for Bob as he prepares to become part of the highest trial court in New York, it is also bittersweet for us as his partners. We are sad to lose him, but proud to watch him ascend to his prestigious new position. Working together as Collins, McDonald & Gann over the past quarter of a century — after years spent working together as Nassau County Assistant District Attorneys – has not only been a time of tremendous growth for our firm as we successfully defended our clients, but has been a true honor, and we look forward to watching Bob continue to do great things as he assumes this important new role within our legal system.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the people of Nassau County,” says Bob, who will continue at the firm through the end of the year. “Having had the chance to see the justice system from different perspectives, including as a prosecutor and as a defense lawyer, I will dedicate myself to being fair and impartial on the bench and to being mindful of the realities of the practice of law in working with all the lawyers to come before me.”
Please join us in congratulating Bob on becoming a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, and continue to check our website for additional news and photos resulting from last night’s election. As always, we thank you for your friendship and support of our firm as we move forward in the new year to come – and are thrilled to share additional details about the continued expansion of the firm in the coming months.
