Have Fun – But Exercise Caution – This July 4th
As we head into the Fourth of July holiday, we want to wish our friends and colleagues a happy, and safe, day ahead. We also wanted to take this opportunity to remind people that, unfortunately, the July 4th holiday is also one of the biggest days when it comes to DWI/DUI/BWI incidences and arrests – with last year’s statistics here on LI reporting that 69 people in Suffolk County, and 45 people in Nassau, were charged with driving while intoxicated during the holiday weekend. And this year, like last year, police in both Nassau and Suffolk will be beefing up their patrols from July 3rd to July 5th – and will be on alert for any motorists and/or boaters who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
With two recent tragedies here on Long Island – the death of 18 year old Brittany Walsh just days after her high school graduation and the deadly boating accident that took the life of a West Islip man (and three boating-while-intoxicated arrests made in recent weeks) – the often-deadly results of driving while intoxicated and/or boating while intoxicated are still fresh in the minds of many Long Islanders. Stepped up patrols — both on the roads and through added police boats on the water – will be working to ensure the safety of all Long Islanders this July 4th holiday – with the goal of making it a festive, yet safe, day for all.
Remember, enjoy the day with family and friends – but make sure to play it safe and don’t get behind the car wheel, or navigate a boat, if you’ve been drinking. However, if you do find yourself accused of being under the influence while driving or boating, we are available 24/7 to help – call us anytime at 516-294-0300.
Have a happy 4th!
