Join the United Mavericks for the Upcoming Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5k Run & Walk on September 28th
The United Mavericks will once again be participating in the annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk – and this year we will be taking it to an even greater level. This year, the Mavericks have created a way for the entire community to get involved in this inspiring and emotional event honoring 9/11 first responders – organizing buses, breakfast and a special after-party for all those who join the Mavericks for this important day. The annual event raises money for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the not-for-profit organization with the mission of honoring the sacrifice of Stephen Siller, the firefighter who laid down his life to help others on September 11th., as well as honoring our military and first responders who continue to make supreme sacrifices for our country.
On September 11th 2001, Stephen Siller had just gotten off the late shift at his firehouse in Park Slope, Brooklyn and heard the news on his scanner of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers. He returned to his firehouse to get his gear, drove his truck to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel but upon finding out it was already closed, strapped 60 pounds of gear to his back and ran on foot towards the World Trade Center, where he lost his life while saving others.
This year’s New York City Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will take place on September 28th. The Run/Walk will trace the steps that Stephen Siller took on September 11th from the tunnel to the World Trade Center towers. Last year’s event saw tens of thousands of participants, and it is hoped even more will participate this year.
To help support this important cause and raise money for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and to honor our first responders and military heroes from 9/11, United Mavericks has organized a special event to encourage participants. The event consists of round trip bus transportation from Mineola, Melville or Riverhead to Brooklyn, registration fees, breakfast and after-party at Chaminade and a special United Mavericks t-shirt. Cost for the entire event is $100 per person. The United Mavericks, with founding members that include CMG partner Rick Collins and Nick Valastro, among others, is comprised of 60 community leaders who have joined together with the mission of playing an active role in contributing to philanthropic and charitable endeavors, such as this important event.
