– Original Founding Partners Rick Collins and the Hon. Bob McDonald Join with Top Legal Professionals Throughout NY for NYSBA Young Lawyers Section Trial Academy –
For the ninth consecutive year, Founding Partners of the original firm of Collins, McDonald & Gann – Rick Collins and the Hon. Robert (Bob) McDonald, who now serves in the prestigious role of New York State Supreme Court Justice — will together be serving as Distinguished Faculty at the New York State Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Trial Academy. This year’s sold-out event will be held from April 4th throughApril 8th at Cornell Law School in Ithaca, NY.
The New York State Bar Association Trial Academy is a five-day trial techniques program geared toward newly-admitted attorneys, providing them with the opportunity to learn from and network with leading litigators, advocates and judges from every region of New York. With an emphasis on direct participation, the Trial Academy is designed to help young and new lawyers gain valuable trial skills and advance/improve their courtroom skills, and provides important insight into the areas of Opening Statements, Evidence, Foundations and Objections, Direct Examinations, Cross Examinations, Trial Motions and Motions in Limine, and Closing Arguments. The Trial Academy is limited to 60 participants and has been approved for a total of up to 37.5 MCLE credit hours, consisting of 2.0 credit hours in Ethics and 35.5 credit hours in Practical Skills. Once again, Rick Collins will be presenting the annual lecture on Opening Statements in a Criminal Case.
Rick looks forward to joining with former partner Judge McDonald for this annual New York State Bar Association event that each year offers a unique opportunity for young lawyers to put theory into practice with the feedback of both Team Leaders and critique faculty. As in past years, Rick and Judge McDonald will play an integral role at the Trial Academy — offering their insight into criminal law and trial techniques to young and new lawyers, and providing attendees with one-on-one critiques and feedback on trial skills learned throughout the program.
